Flooding Canterbury area

Updated 11:00pm Sunday 8th December 2019

The Urundel Bridge on State Highway 72 will be opening at midday today. There will be speed restrictions on the approach roads and also there will be one way sections that will operate for ½ hour periods North / South.

It is anticipated that these restrictions will increase the drive time to and from Invercargill, Dunedin, Cromwell and Queenstown by approximately 1 hour in each direction. Therefore, arrival times of overnight freight into these branches will be delayed until such time as the roads are fully repaired and the restrictions are lifted. That is anticipated to be until the end of the week.

Trucks have launched from Christchurch to take the Friday overnight freight to Invercargill, Dunedin, Cromwell and Queenstown. However, while this freight will arrive at branch today, there is no anticipation of delivery until tomorrow.

Flooding Canterbury area

7:00pm Sunday 8th December 2019

Due to flooding in the Canterbury area, State Highways 1 and 79 are currently closed, also, West Coast roads are closed. These roads will be closed at least until 12pm Monday. There is no road connection at this time to Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, Cromwell, Queenstown or Invercargill.

Any overnight freight sent on Friday night for these destinations, will have remained in Christchurch (and will remain there until the roads open).

Any Saturday delivery items would have been delivered to the branches on Saturday morning.

This will also affect any 2 day freight that was sent on Thursday night.

An update will be made on Monday - as soon as further information comes to hand.

Kind regards from the Team at New Zealand Couriers.
